Why raininblaine?

Newly arrived immigrant to Blaine Washington blogs about a new life under dark skies and under the supervision of a plethora of blue blooded American border guards.

Is it possible to feel absolutely safe and petrified at the same time?

Within this blog you will witness the trials and tribulations as I transition from living amongst urban dwelling, left-leaning, Obama-philes, wearing lesbiopian glasses and driving Japanese cars, to a new land of hetero-sexist breeders, country bumpkin, might=right, made in America, church goin folks with fantastic dental plans.

I am hopeful that the stereotypes and blue state images which come to mind when I imagine life in Blaine are antiquated and false.

Is it possible that nestled between Bellingham and Vancouver is a clutch of charming and enlightened individuals perfectly positioned for an inexpensive laid back lifestyle, escaping the hustle and bustle of big city life, while capitalizing on larger markets for entertainment and shopping opportunities?

I wrote that 8 months ago and what I’ve found to be true is that Blaine is like any other small town. There are bigots and border guards and some are heterosexist jerks. There are great people who are struggling to be decent hardworking parents raising fantastic curious children. There are even a few people of color. Small town America is alive and well here and the local organically grown food is fantastic!
